I think there are two types of people in the world when it comes to Christmas gift shopping.
There are the organized list-making ones, who’ve been thinking about their gifts since early September, have done their homework, and know exactly what they want and where to get the
gifts. It’s called planning, and well done to them!
And then there are the rest of us.
It’s the beginning of December and omigod, we haven’t a thing done.
No Christmas cake cooked, no list of gifts planned, and we haven’t a clue what the Other Half wants, not to mention the mother-in-law or the guest who’s coming to stay for the New Year.
And that’s completely understandable in this day and age; we are all so busy juggling so many things, and a bit of panic can set in very easily when we realize the mountain that is Christmas.
So the thing to do is take a deep breath and not to panic. A few strategic decisions at this stage can make all the difference, I find.
There’s nothing worse than wasting a whole Saturday afternoon and going out to look at shops that have nothing suitable, so think in advance of places that can provide a range of gifts in one place.
Bookshops are the obvious, aren’t they?
And food shops. Craft fairs are terrific for small but beautiful Irish-made gifts like soaps, scarves and jewellery.
